Pastels

My latest, as best as I can photograph it. And it's pretty close to the original. Note that I put the Author, Ayn Rand, on one of the books. To do that with every book would be photo-realism. I'm not interested in that. The artist must pick and choose. Note too, that I signed it on one of the books.

A little rough, intentionally so. I must have blended different colors for the background over some 15 layers of pastel. Decided to use all my techniques, so much of it is now cross-hatching. The lightest color in the background is done with just a deft touch of running a single color over the underpainting. This is close to cross hatching, but closer to just lightly touching that area with the pastel.

I love that moment when the sun sheds its first light on my books. It feels good to just sit there sipping your morning coffee or tea, and watch the rugged face of wood and old paper bathe in warm tones.

I really like the concept of your work, and I also find the choice of colours very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing this. :)
