The window and couch cushions are painted from life.

The cat....

No way to get it done in one sitting, so the cat is stylized from memory of the seconds she'd be still and in somewhat that position.

it all looks great, you can see a slight difference in the way the cat and the rest of the painting is done but it has such a lovely feel to it.

lol, i know by the way my cats act that keeping them still or in one place without the aid of food or sleep is a pretty futile battle. XD

The artist can do anything. He's God.

The tree isn't on the curtain in real life. It's seen through the curtain. But what did I do? I made it seem like part of the other flora that is on the curtain. Moreover, I made it seem as if it's both outside and inside. Note the frame of the window how it's "distorted" through the curtain by the wind blowing the curtain.

I'm afraid my scan of this painting does make the entire picture fuzzy (I know you mean "fussy", meaning not overworked).

Cats! You have to love them. They won't obey like their friends/enemies the dogs. So, yes you do have to invent.
