Description

Copy after:

Rembrandt
Descent From the Cross
Oils on canvas
1634

My copy is:
Oils on deep amber cathedral glass
11 x 8"
1984

Sorry for the poor scan with blue tints in some of the darks and lights. All I have is a photo of the painting. I did use Photoshop to paint in the actual color of the glass background. Well, not quite. Only the way it is in the photo. The glass is actually not that dark. But there was a reflection there of the one who took the photo―the owner of the original. The blue cast in some of the darks and the upper third of the painting is not in the original. This was a finely finished painting.

Rembrandt, I would think, shows anyone who sees his work how to see in the dark. For this artist, he taught me not to be afraid of the darks in my own drawings and paintings; to see that there is indeed light and color in the darks. The two men at the top of the cross are really finished in the original.

TO DAY WE TALK ABOUT DRAMA QUEENS...WELL REMBRANDT WAS THE DRAMA KING WITH HIS LOVE OF THE DARKNESS....WOW THIS IS FULL OF IT. I WOULD LOVE TO VIEW THIS ORIGINAL...WISH YOU HAD IT. I BELIEVE THIS IS REALISTIC OF THIS TIME. I LOVE THE BURIAL CLOTH BEING PREPARED BY HIS FOLLOWERS ON THE GROUND. I SEE ANGUISH ON HIS FOLLOWER'S FACE. OUTSTANDING!!!
