Oils on canvas
26 x 38"
1983

Had a chance to photograph the original at the house of the owner of this. He bought 70 of my early works in 1985. The largest of my works. No references, neither photos nor from life. Totally made up from the artist's head.

I am loving this more and more as I look at it. I am so impressed with all the autumn leaves to the right. They look as if I could just crunch them in my hand. I love the mystic sky that looks as if it is just full of snow. I love that naked tree too. It gives you the feel of a photograph...almost- that is the key. Did you have the opportunity to photograph the other 69 pieces? Would love to see them. This one would be a real prize!!

I got to photograph 14. The rest are there, but very poor lighting conditions. And not enough time. Will try again.

The colourful snow has a lovely luminous quality ...just enough light on it to make it look cold and frozen..brrrrrr!It's almost like a frozen stream...The expanse of snow in the foreground is so clever because it leads your eyes straight to the man...and the tree.....and then following the thin line of trees into the cold, far distance.....and such a heavy cold sky! It's a wonderful painting full of atmosphere!.....You didn't need any references Robert!
Lucky man.....:iconwowplz:70 PAINTINGS!!!
