Artist's Comments
Pencil
9 x 12" 1989 This is actually drawn from a cat figurine--except I did invent the cat's eyes--in the figurine the eyes are just as soft and bland and plain (no iris, highlights etc.) as the rest of the figurine. The importance of it to me was more the study of the human skull. I don't know feline anatomy, but I repeat that the artist must study human anatomy in order to know the underlying structure of his subject. Here's a link to a close-up of the skull: [link] |

The figurine was an Egyptian feel it its design. The skull just looks creepy real.

and i must reiterate - you have captured something linguistically with your title here that blends perfectly with the image - there's a haunting triumph in the cat which is really given life by the title (for me anyway)
I think you meant to say you're "staring" at the values on the teeth?
I'm thinking of showing an enlarged view of that skull. I'm quite proud of it and you'll see more in the details of that part of the drawing.

Glad my title is appropriate and that you caught the meaning of it.
