Description

"Independence forever"
Photoshop cs and Photoshop 7

Perhaps this subject is more appropriate for America's Independence Day, July 4th. However, I submit the theme of independence, whether from a political regime or from other people and their ideas, is of universal importance. For example see my pastel painting "Obama's Vision" [link] in which I declare my independence from the current leader of my country.

Now, this is not art and I don't know what category under which to submit it. I would simply call it computer graphics. (My best work in this medium can be seen in my "Marine Corps Art and Graphics" [link]). Here I use elements from my own photography, and elements found on the web. The fonts used are from "The Minuteman Printshop, Classic Colonial Typefaces", available at the Walden Font Co. [link]

"Lafayette" from the font "Revolutionary War Heroes". I use this replica of the Marquis De Lafayette's own signature as a kind of gimmick, since I was born and still live in the city of Lafayette.

"John Adams", a replica of Adams' own signature, from the font "Signers of the Declaration of Independence".

"Independence forever" from the font "Caslon Swash Italic".

And "Last public words as a toast for the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of The Declaration of Independence. July 4, 1826" from the font "Caslon Swash Italic". This font includes the long "s", which looks very similar to the "f". So, for those already not terribly familiar with English writing, I'm happy to "translate" this 18th century style of writing for you.
