After Vietnam I was a "heavy" drinker. That is to say, whenever I could afford (which was not often) a quart of beer (for $0.65) I would. And I smoked a pack of cigarettes a day. I quit smoking in 1979 [Picked up smoking again in 1988. Quit again for two years in the 1990's. Smoke 5 cigarettes a day now.] and didn't have a drop to drink from 1980 to 1983. This is the meaning of the symbols in this painting. The bottle is full, the cap unopened. The cigarettes are there, but not lit.

I love the sepia tones. It is amazing something so lovely and destinctive can come from almost one color with shade variations. Your glass here is wonderful. This looks as if it could be a photo from the 30's or 40's when sepia photos were very popular. I love the way you arranged this still life. It is full of interest. Looks like Humpry Bogart should be sitting on the bed next to this scene. I must mention the wood...what a job showing off all that wonderful grain.
